What is a Social Media Manager?

In this day and age, it is imperative for a business to have a social media presence. It can work absolute wonders! From brand awareness to managing consumer relationships and converting sales, social media is a tip-top tool to position your business and brand incredibly well.

But the downside of this is…you’ve actually got to put the time in for it to work (annoying, I know)! Which for the majority of business owners, can be an impossible task. When your brain is filled with a million and one other things to do, it is quite easy for setting time aside to post on your social media channels to fall through the cracks. But not to worry, that is where a Social Media Manager comes in to work their magic and make incredible things happen for your business and brand.

A Social Media Manager is an expert when it comes to social media marketing, they truly know how to help you make your mark in the world of digital communications. They are copywriters, photographers, crisis managers, graphic designers and so much more! A “Jack of all trades” fits the job description very well.

What is the process?

To kickstart your road to success, usually, they will do extensive research into you, your industry, your competitors, and your target audiences. This way, they can accurately produce a social media marketing strategy that will contribute to business growth and exceed your goals.

Here at Social Target, one of the first steps that take place when onboarding a new client is carrying out a SWOT analysis of your business (check out my IG post here to find out a little bit more about what this is…blog post coming soon) and a social media audit. That way I have a great understanding of some very important elements. These include what works, what doesn’t, what your future could look like and things I need to keep in mind.

Then what?

From the findings of this analysis, as well as extensive research mentioned above, we will put together a social media marketing strategy. This will propose how we believe your business can put its best foot forward to achieve the most from its social media channels. The next step is to produce a content plan of social media posts that will cover a certain period of time.

Consistency is key when it comes to social media marketing. So, to have a Social Media Manager who can keep your channels in shape by frequently posting engaging content, as well as being reactive by replying to comments, keeping on top of messages and sparking conversations where possible, is the perfect combo.

At the end of every month, it’s time for one of the most important parts of social media marketing for guaranteed growth…reporting! Not only is this great for you to see so you can get a good idea of how your channels are performing, but it tells me exactly what I need to focus on to achieve the best results for you over time.

So, what do I need to do?

The beauty of working with a Social Media Manager is that you, as the client, can be involved as much or as little as you like. Have some ideas you want to put forward? Go for it! Or would you rather leave the social savvy expert to it? Whatever is easiest for you! But here at Social Target, nothing will ever be done without your permission – you still have full control.

We may require input from your side every now and then, but nothing that will take any longer than 10 minutes of your time. These may be things such as asking for assets from a top-notch photoshoot that has taken place, or an update of upcoming events we need to be aware of for our content calendar, but that’s pretty much it.

So to conclude, if you are struggling to keep on top of your social media channels, or to see the results you want, you absolutely should consider investing in a Social Media Manager. It is worth every penny when it means growth for your business, some food for thought if it is something that has been on your mind.
